ADVANCED IRISH DANCE
Perquisite: Intermediate Irish Dance or audition
Dancers will learn yet another set of dances of increased skill and difficulty, in both soft/reel shoes and in hard/heavy shoes. Dancers will build on their foundational knowledge and skills with drills and exercises designed to build stamina, increase flexibility and stability, musicality, coordination, balance, strength, and sportsmanship.
BEGINNER IRISH DANCE
Youth (ages 7-12) (Must take Pre Irish Dance prior)
Teen-Adult (13+) (No Prerequisite)
This class is designed for those with little to no Irish dance experience. In Beginner Irish Dance, dancers will learn traditional Irish step dance technique required to master their Beginner Reel, Hop/Single Jig, Light Jig, and Slip Jig. Dancers will learn to use the Barre, correct Irish dance carriage/posture, basic Irish steps, and stage/performance etiquette. Dancers will be introduced to hard/heavy shoe concepts such as brushing, toe height, and trebles once they have learned their softshoe dances. Dancers will participate in age-appropriate exercises that aid in increasing flexibility, carriage/posture, musicality, coordination, balance, and strength.
PRIMARY IRISH DANCE
Perquisite: Beginner Irish Dance or audition
This class is designed for dancers who have mastered Beginner Irish Dance. Dancers should be proficient in counting reel, single jig, light jig, and slip jig music as well as dancing all required Beginner dances. In this class, dancers will learn their Primary reel, single/hop jig, light jig, and slip jig in their soft/reel shoes and their Treble Jig, reel steps, and traditional set dances in hard/heavy shoes. Dancers will build on their foundational knowledge and skills with drills and exercises designed to build stamina, increase flexibility and stability, musicality, coordination, balance, strength, and sportsmanship.
INTERMEDIATE IRISH DANCE
Perquisite: Primary Irish Dance or audition
In Intermediate, dancers will learn new softshoe dances with increased difficulty: Intermediate softshoe reel, hop/single jig, light jig, and slip jig. Dancers will also learn their next Treble Jig, more reel steps, a hornpipe, and more traditional set dances. Dancers will build on their foundational knowledge and skills with drills and exercises designed to build stamina, increase flexibility and stability, musicality, coordination, balance, strength, and sportsmanship.
